About Dr. Wirick
Dr. Brady Wirick, DC, DACNB, DNMSc was the first board certified chiropractic neurologist to practice in Idaho.
When he opened his clinic, Idaho Chiropractic Neurology, there were no other diplomats of the American Chiropractic Neurology Board (DACNB) in Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, or Montana.
Dr. Wirick was born and raised in Ogden, Utah and attended Weber State University.
Dr. Wirick received his doctor of chiropractic from Texas Chiropractic College in Houston, Texas. He also received his certification for Chiropractic Neurology through the Carrick Institute of Graduate studies, and he earned his board certified through the American Chiropractic Neurology Board in 2007. Most recently, he graduated from the American Functional Neurology Institute in 2013.
He now teaches other doctors for the American Functional Neurology Institute.
It was his love for the outdoors that drew him to Idaho back in 2006. Since opening Idaho Chiropractic Neurology, he has helped thousands of people overcome devastating chronic diseases. He has a passion for learning, teaching, and helping others improve their lives.
In his free time, Dr. Wirick is an avid outdoorsman. He spends as much time as possible with his family hiking, fishing, cycling, birding, and skiing. Dr. Wirick currently lives in Ammon, Idaho.
I recently visited with one of my neuropathy patients that asked me why his pain medications did not “cure” his neuropathy. The answer is rather simple. Pain medications do not treat the cause of the neuropathy. They only treat the symptoms. I have said before that the CAUSE of neuropathy is generally a lack of blood flow and nutrients to the nerve. The most common meds used in neuropathy do nothing for the blood flow to the nerve.
Let’s take a quick look at the most common drugs for neuropathy, Gabapentin (Neurontin), Lyrica, and Opioids.Gabapentin (Brand name Neurontin) is a voltage-gated calcium blocker. It mimics a neurotransmitter called GABA that is a calming or relaxing chemical in your brain. It calms nerves down by blocking these special calcium channels. It was introduced in 1993 as an anti-seizure medication. It calms the nerves in your brain so you don’t feel your nerve pain. It does nothing for the blood flow of the nerve. The side effects of gabapentin include: dizziness, fatigue, drowsiness, edema, movement disorders, sexual dysfunction, suicide and cancer.
Lyrica is a “GABAergic anticonvulsant and depressant of the central nervous system” (thank you Wikipedia). It mimics that same GABA that we talked about earlier. This time, it works as an overall calmer of the brain. Again, we are dumbing down the brain so you can’t feel the pain. It does nothing for the root cause of neuropathy! The side effects for Lyrica are very similar to Gabapentin.
Last but not least are the opioid drugs. They come with names like: morphine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, and fentanyl. These drugs are called narcotics, which is derived from the words numbness and sleep. They work by firing your brain’s dopamine receptors to make you feel good, to the point that you don’t care that your feet and hands are on fire. The problem here is clear. They are addictive and destructive. Wars are fought over these drugs. They are bad. President Trump recently called the Opiod crisis a “Health Emergency”.
The bottom line is that medications only deal with the symptoms of neuropathy. They never get to the root cause of the issue. Cures are only found when the root causes of the problem are addressed. This is one of the reasons why I am fully on board with NerveReverse. It addresses the root cause of the neuropathy problem. With Vitamin D, key B vitamins and Alpha-Lipoic Acid, you truly get ingredients that address the immune components, blood flow, and vitamin deficiencies that are causing your neuropathy.
Yours in health,
I recently met with a neuropathy patient that is doing well. His name is Russ. He’s a retired professional in his 70’s. Following the standard medical advice got him nowhere. Russ had a stroke several years ago and has been on a downhill slide since then. His doctor did some blood work recently and I was shocked at what I found. Russ’s neuropathy was not getting better because of a B12 deficiency. Most of his red blood cell numbers were up on his blood work. This made me think of 2 things: a stomach acid issue and a form of anemia caused by lack of Vitamin B12.
My course of action was pretty simple with Russ. I’m having Russ continue on his Paleo diet, I referred him to a medical doctor for B12 shots to get him kick started, and I put him on a product called NerveReverse for long term B12 support. NerveReverse contains 2,000 mcg of Methylcobalamin. According to the National Institute of Health, methylcobalamin is the most bioavailable form of B12. B12 is needed to produce healthy red blood cells. Without it, red blood cells cannot mature. When they do not mature, they cannot carry oxygen efficiently. Without oxygen, the nerves die. Period.
My course of action for Russ is to help him produce enough health red blood cells to oxygenate and revive his nerves.
So far, it’s working beautifully. I’ll keep you posted.
